ST HELENS Combination clubs just about held on in the LCFA Cup Competitions First Round ties at the weekend.

In the Junior Cup Competition, with the Dragon and the Stars having first round byes, The Carr's Hotel went out 2-3 at home to Old Xaverians in a hard tussle at Holt Lane to leave the two first round bye clubs as sole St Helens survivors in Round Two.

In the Intermediate Cup Round One there were mixed fortunes with Top Nogs, after holding Edge Hill BC Old Boys to a 2-2 draw at 90 minutes, simply collapsing and being savaged 10-2.

Windle Hotel had a good result by winning 4-3 away at Monies.

Old Congs had a hard tussle at King George's Haydock before eliminating Sacre Coeur Reserves 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 extra time stalemate.

Steve Bradley hit a fine goal for Orange House at Ecclesfield but that was the end product for them as Royal Oak dominated to win 1-5.

Rainford North End, thanks to Gavin Campbell and Chris Mackay goals put out Stoneycroft FC Reserves 2-1 at Bushey Lane and in an all Combination tussle, Prescot Leisure Reserves completely over ran a lack lustre Saracens Head outfit to go through 8-0.

In the Leagues, Paul Eccleston, Phil Roberts and Mick Darwin scored for Clock Face Miners in upsetting Dentons Green 3-1 in the Star Premiership and Stars, in the only other Premier game, have to thank Paul Oakes whose double sank Sidac Social (Carl Pilling) 2-1.

Division One's top scoring game, (just) was a hard fought, end to end game, that saw Globe (Chris Hughes (3), Paul Kelly (2) and Ian Ashby) just pip Sony by 6-5.
