SOME of the region's best young singers have joined forces for an unusual evening of entertainment, when they will attempt to crack the legend that the human voice alone really can shatter glass.
Alison Jones (alto), Chris Liston (tenor), Martin O'Boyle (bass) and Danielle Thomas (soprano) are the four young singers who will attempt the 'shattering' task of breaking four wine glasses from the Strathearn Gallery in Scotland.
Organised by glass blower and writer Dominic Fonde, part of the artists in residence team at The World of Glass, the event takes place at the award-winning St Helens museum on Saturday 18 September.
Dominic will treat visitors to the event to a short story on the subject, followed by performances from the youngsters and culminating in their attempts to break the wineglasses by voice alone.
Jane Charles, Phil Atrill, Franco Toffolo and Mike Hunter, some of Britain's best glassblowing talents, have made the wine glasses for the event and each singer will tackle a different type of glass.
Dawsons Music have supplied the equipment, including a piano which will be played by Geoffrey Bond, official accompanist for the evening.
The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets priced £3 are available by calling St Helens Tourist Information Centre on 01744 755150. Alternatively for more information contact The World of Glass on 08700 11 44 66.
