Clock Face Miners 28 Culcheth 6
AFTER last week's defeat Clock picked themselves up and also their first points of the season.
With the strong wind in their favour Clock made good use of it, but Culcheth opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a try by Phil Jones, goaled by Danny Houghton, to give them the lead.
Clock hit straight back however and after some good work by Steve Hayes and Dave Hamilton, Chris Littler followed up his grubber kick through the visitors defence to score, with Craig Greenall adding on the extras to level the scores.
Minutes later the Clock were in the lead after a loose ball was gathered by Matt Waterworth, going out to Littler, who sent a neat pass out to put Wayne Prescott over for a try. Greenall goaled to give Clock a 12-6 half time lead.
With the wind now in their favour, Culcheth put Clock under pressure from the start, but their defence held firm, with Andy Johnson, Karl Grounds and Ian Chisnall leading the tackle count.
On 55 minutes a fine break by Waterworth was finished off by Littler, who weaved his way through for his second try, which Greenall goaled.
Culcheth kept up the pressure, going close to scoring several times. But a break from defence by Greenall ended with Mike Smith touching down behind the posts. Greenall adding on the goal the game was now safely won.
Just to make sure, Graham Leadbetter rounded off a fine move minutes from the end, to seal Clock's well deserved victory.
The Lunt Haulage man of the match for Clock was Chris Littler, with Ian Chisnall and Steve Hayes worthy of mention.
