VISITORS to the World of Glass are being offered a special 'hands-on' experience with grenades and machine guns, as part of a series of special presentations.

World War One specialist Simon Jones will be giving the presentations as part of 'C'mon Chums', the current exhibition about the sacrifices made by the local people during the First World War.

Audiences will also have the opportunity to compare the items as well as uniforms and other artefacts with some of their modern-day equivalents.

Vicky Tipping, of the St Helens Local History and Archive Library, says; "These talks should appeal to youngsters as well as their parents, and they will be really useful for many young people as the First World War features on the GCSE curriculum."

'C'mon Chums' runs until 14 November and contains original posters, photographs, extracts from documents in the archives and artefacts from the Queen's Regimental Museum.

The presentations are at 11am and 2pm on Wednesday 29 September, Wednesday 20 October and Wednesday 10 November.

Those who attend will also be entitled to reduced entry to the World of Glass Museum itself.
