SAINTS' veteran former skipper Chris Joynt is weighing up his options after being offered a 12-month contract to stay on at Knowsley Road next term.

Joynt, 32, is not being rushed into a decision and said he will decide what he wants to do over the next couple of weeks.

He said: "I have played well this season and have enjoyed it.

"But I was absolutely gutted to lose on Saturday at Wigan and losing games like that makes me want to carry on and not finish on such a bad note.

"We should have had that game sewn up, but it just didn't happen. In the second half I believe we ran out of ideas a bit, which was also disappointing.

"I didn't want to rush in making my decision immediately after the last minute of the season - I have to make sure I make the right choice all round."

There is no doubt that Joynt can still do a job for the club - even though he has lost a yard of pace he had his pomp when he terrorised that left flank in conjunction with Paul Newlove and Anthony Sullivan.

However, his tackling remains formidable and when switched into a front rower's role he can still make the fast, hard yards and produce quick play the balls.

Significantly, there will still be a number of players of Joynt's age in Super League next term, including Barrie McDermott, Mick Cassidy and Terry O'Connor.

Bradford's heavyweight prop Paul Anderson, who is strongly tipped to move to Saints next season, is also as old as Joynt.

One forward definitely leaving is 24-year-old John Stankevitch, who has signed for his home town club Widnes on a two-year deal.

Saints' Junior Academy u18s, who finished second, take on fourth placed Leeds this Saturday, in the Final Eliminator. The game at Knowsley Road kicks off at noon.
