POLICE have launched a fresh crackdown on the use of scrambler bikes, mopeds and quad bikes at a nature park.

Residents living near to Colliers Moss, Bold, have again raised concerns about the dangers posed by the bikes. The open land is intended for activities like walking, horse-riding, cycling, running and fishing.

Police say they are using regular patrols to explain the problems to bikers. Inspector Graham Spencer said: "St Helens residents have very valid concerns about the dangers these bikes pose and should not have to put up with the noise of the bikes and anti-social behaviour of some riders".

As part of what they describe as an "intensive crackdown", police have seized bikes following complaints by residents.

Earlier this month in Newton-le-Willows, officers seized a moped from a 16-year-old boy. He was also warned and had to pay £105 to get the bike back.

Anyone riding scramblers and quad bikes need to have the correct licence and insurance, as well as safety equipment if they are to be ridden anywhere other than private land.
