for City Road
PLANS have been announced this week to vastly upgrade the Ruskin Drive sports complex, but the move will mean the City Road home of famous amateur rugby league club Pilkington Recs will be axed.
Pilkington plc announced this week that it intends to sell the Windle City site to developers. Two rugby pitches, the Windle City Social Club, car parks and a bowling green would be axed under the scheme.
To compensate for the loss of community sports facilities considerable improvements would take place at Ruskin Drive sports ground, Dentons Green. Pilks Recs, who would lose their home of more than 50 years, will be offered the chance to relocate there.
The proposals are subject to planning approval. Exhibitions of the City Road plans will be held in Windle City Social club on Wednesday, October 6 and Thursday, October 7, between 4 and 8pm. Anyone is invited to attend.
