CABLES were unfortunate to meet an in-form Celtic side only four days after an FA Cup tie against Kendal.
Cables had the better of the opening ten minutes with Karl Connolly coming close in the fourth minute but being dispossessed by Farsley goalkeeper Tom Morgan.
But in the eleventh minute Farsley won a throw-in on the right-hand side 25 yards from goal. The ball found its way to Andy Shields who put a superb shot beyond the reach of Cables keeper Phil Priestley to give the away team an early lead.
Less than a minute later Roy Stammer weaved his way through the Cables defence to double the lead.
Cables had barely got their breath back when they found themselves three down. Michael Midwood shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Cables tried hard to reduce the deficit with Simon Garner shooting wide on 21 minutes and Karl Connolly having a shot blocked on 27. Karl's rebounded shot found the feet of Lee Cooper who shot over the bar.
Two minutes later Kevin Garforth put in a left-footed shot from the right-hand edge of the penalty area only to see the ball land safely in the hands of Morgan.
David Chadwick had a shot saved on 31 minutes and a minute later it was Adam Flynn's turn to have a shot.
Unfortunately for Adam and Cables the ball went over the bar.
This was the best spell Cables enjoyed in the first half and they came closest to scoring on 35 minutes when a beautiful exchange between Simon Garner and Karl Connolly ended with Cables winning a corner on the left.
The corner was safely put out by Farsley, but only at the expense of a throw-in level with the penalty spot. Once again, Farsley cleared the danger but only to give Cables another dead-ball.
This time Cables had a free kick just inside the opposition half. As Cables pushed forward Farsley gave them another free kick, this time 25 yards away from goal. Karl Connolly was very unlucky to see his shot hit the bar. The ball bounced to Kevin Garforth whose shot was blocked by Morgan.
Cables' spell of dominance ended on 38 minutes when they failed to take advantage of a free kick 25 yards out.
On 41 minutes it was Farsley Celtic's turn to come close with a shot just wide by Curtis Bernard while Cables' supporters were calling for an offside decision against Midwood. The first nine minutes of the second half belonged to Farsley Celtic who came close with several shots.
This spurred Cables' manager Tommy Lawson to make changes: a triple substitution that brought immediate dividends.
On 72 minutes Celtic were awarded a free kick just inside Cables' half on the right-hand side. The ball found its way to Andy Shields who shot into the goal to make the score.
