SHAUN Woodward has welcomed the latest Home Office reports which indicate that the performance of Merseyside Police is steadily improving.
The report shows that local police have significantly reduced robberies, vehicle crime and domestic burglaries in 2003/04, compared to the previous year's statistics.
The St Helens South MP said: "This is very good news for St Helens. Improving police performance is one of the Government's key priorities. While clearly there is more work to be done, I congratulate Merseyside Police on their record of crime reduction".
Improvements have also been made in investigating crime, and in particular the marked increase of 48 per cent in the number of Class A drug supply offences brought to justice, for every 10,000 residents.
