AFTER the success of the popular BBC1 series 'Strictly Come Dancing', Blackpool Tower has been inundated with requests to create a new amateur dance competition in the magnificent setting of the Tower Ballroom.
This new competition will see contestants performing the jive, rumba, waltz or samba on the famous dance floor, which saw Jill Halfpenny and Darren Bennet crowned the champions of the second series of 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
Geoff Sage, General Manager of Blackpool Tower, said, "To have hosted some of the 'Strictly Come Dancing' series has certainly been the jewel in the crown for us. We have been inundated with requests for a new amateur dance competition and thought that we would give members of the public an opportunity to experience our magnificent Ballroom and have their own 'Strictly' moment.
"Ballroom dancing has seen an increase in popularity and indeed has become very fashionable with people of all ages. We are looking forward to the new competition and are confident that it will encourage more people to take to the dance floors across the country."
If you are not a dancer and don't see yourself as a contestant then the competition will be open for spectators who want to take in the atmosphere, glitz, glamour and excitement of the Tower Ballroom. For more details watch this space!
