VICTIMS of jailed local doctor Roy Murray are now considering taking legal action against the former St Helens Health Authority.
The Star understands more than 10 victims of the disgraced family GP, jailed for indecently assaulting 23 women patients, have been in contact with a Liverpool-based law firm.
Pam Williams, of solicitors Edwards, Abrams, and Doherty confirmed they were in the process of gathering information from victims of the GP before deciding whether to mount a case.
It is understood any action would centre on allegations that the former St Helens Health Authority neglected to investigate thoroughly claims against Murray, 62, of Bromborough, Wirral, in the decades prior to his arrest in 2002.
St Helens Primary Care Trust replaced the old health authority in 2001 and would have to investigate the allegations.
COMPLAINTS
Following the doctor's nine-week trial last year the PCT insisted there are no formal records of complaints made against Murray, from documents it inherited from the health authority.
The PCT added it contacted police as soon as it became aware allegations had been made.
Murray is serving a six-year sentence after being convicted of indecently assaulting 23 women patients at his former Liverpool Road surgery, Greenbank between 1981 and 1998. He has always maintained his innocence.
