PREMIER Division champions St Michaels earned their Guardian Cup semi-final spot the hard way on Saturday.
They were forced into extra time at Haydock; the sides were level at 2-2 after 90 minutes.
The home side posed a constant threat in normal time, but Saints stepped up the tempo in extra time to ease to a 5-2 win.
Penlake restored normal service in the Frontrunner Premier Division winning 3-0 at Moore United to re-establish their hold on the top of the table. Goals by Jamie Foster, Steve Bennett and a Sean McKeegan penalty wrapped up the points for Penlake.
Second-placed Vulcan were given a fright by lowly Beeches before running out 3-2 winners.
The second division game between Bank Quay and Windle LC ended in a 2-2 draw - a fair result after an entertaining 90 minutes.
