Eccleston Lions 18
GREAT defence was the key to this Lions win as the visitors toppled a Wigan side that had beaten league leaders Blackbrook A on their own ground the previous week.
Playing uphill in the first half Lions took the lead with a try by Martin Liptrot and then tackled well to restrict Keepers to a converted try.
A Simon Dingsdale penalty for Lions tied the scores at 6-6 at the break.
A second converted try at the start of the second half saw the home side take the lead but Lions roared back with a well-worked touchdown by Dennis Hall, converted by Dingsdale.
The winning score came when good tackling by Lions inside the Keepers' half forced a mistake and Dingsdale went in under the posts leaving himself a simple conversion.
The Birkett Motors man-of-the-match for Lions went to Jimmy Dyson who also shared the Players' Player award with Dingsdale.
