SEVERAL years ago work commenced on the construction of a large sundial, located on the old B.I.C.C. works site in Prescot, which is now the Cables Retail Park.
I am assuming that this monument, which must have surely cost many thousands of pounds to construct, is dedicated to the historical clock making connections that Prescot has.
However after making several enquiries with local people who pass it every day, not many realise what it is and probably look on it as some kind of modern art.
On close inspection I could not find any of the traditional Roman numerals as is normally found on a sundial.
It's puzzling that after a great deal of money and effort has gone into its construction there are no physical means of establishing the time of day. I was wondering if the numerals are going to be added at some future date?
If they were it would enable the sundial to function properly and provide the people of Prescot and visitors a novel way of telling the time on a sunny day.
