AN ANGRY mother has spoken to the Star of her shock and horror after an alleged stabbing at a St Helens school in which her son and two school friends were said to have been wounded with a craft knife.

The woman who wishes to remain nameless claims that the children were attacked with a knife when two other pupils stabbed them at Haydock High School, wounding two in the legs and one on the backside.

The attack is alleged to have taken place in the morning break on Monday, January 31. Sitting at home after his wound had been stitched, the pupil described the incident: "Some of us were together on the playground, when this lad just came up to me and stabbed me in my leg."

Two of the boys were treated at St Helens Hospital and one was taken to Whiston Hospital.

The first his mother heard of the incident was an hour later: "I couldn't believe it," she said. "I have never come across anything like this."

She has been told that the boys had taken the knife from the Technical Lab, where students are taught woodwork. After the incident it is claimed that the knife was thrown onto the roof of a nearby building.

"I want to know how they got the knife out in the first place," she demanded. "They should be supervised at all times.

"Haydock High is supposed to be a good school."

A Local Education Authority spokesman said: "We understand that an incident involving a small number of pupils took place on Monday.

"A full investigation is being carried out and the school has already taken appropriate action.

"The parents of the students have been fully involved and are supportive of the action taken by the school.

"The Local Authority is confident that the school is dealing appropriately with the situation."

The council has since confirmed that two boys have been excluded.
