County FA cup fighters, Old Congs went out at home, at Haydock, to fellow Premier outfit Rainford North End but not after an extra time battle. In the 2-3 result Keith Halsall and Keith Barker scored for Old Congs and the North End goals came from Gary Brine, Andy Taylor and Dave Brewer.
The other quarter final ended in a 1-0 home win for Dentons Green over Stars FC at Bishop Road, Phil Slater scoring the all important goal.
In Star Premiership games, Windle Hotel (Burgess, Rowlands, Walsh, Stubbs and Lea) outscored Clock Face Miners (Roberts, Gavin, Hollinghurst) to win 5-3 but The Dragon have only themselves to blame for going under 1-2 at home to West Park, Eccy's Arms. Experience told at Sidac where the Social (Eden) were thoroughly beaten 1-5 by Shoe, scorers being three from Graham Billinge, one by Paul Rigby, then a Gary Benyon penalty to round off.
In Division One, Rifle's improvement was halted by a 4-5 home beating by Saracen's Head, but, Pilkingtons A team excelled with a 4-0 drubbing of Prescot Leisure Reserves, goals coming from Steve Morrow (2), Gary Ball and Ronnie Cooke. As expected the game between Dragon Reserves and British Lion turned out to be an exciting affair, but it was deadlocked at 1-1.
Gerard Arms, at present on a bad patch, continued on it by going under 2-3 at home to Sidac Social Res (Fildes, Pilling and Atherton).
