Ideal Isberg 12

HAYDOCK booked another home tie against Hull opposition in Skirlaugh in the next round of the GMB Union National Challenge Cup with this comfortable win over National Conference outfit Ideal Isberg.

The early exchanges were fierce with Haydock prop Neil Ireland having to retire to the blood bin with a gashed eye and his replacement Chris Pearson copping a high tackle that earned the Ideal No. 10 a trip to the sin-bin.

Haydock were quick to take advantage of the extra man when Mark Forber's break ended with centre Darrell Rotherham dummying his opposite number to stroll over. Matty Cunliffe added the conversion.

Haydock's next score came when they charged upfield from a Cunliffe kick and good handling put Clark in out wide for an unconverted try.

Ideal had no answer to the home side's attacks and only over-elaboration prevented the Yickers from piling up more points before player/coach Wayne Bloor took a short ball from hooker Pete Cahalin to go over by the posts. Cunliffe added the extras to make it 16-0.

After Haydock had passed up another couple of scoring chances Ideal finally managed to exert some pressure on the half-hour mark.

And after forcing a repeat set with a grubber kick they opened their account with an unconverted try by centre Collinson after a strong run.

The home side quickly regained the initiative though and Bloor grabbed his second try, with Boland, taking over from Cunliffe, adding the two to make it 22-4 at the interval.

Haydock again started well after the break and their relentless pressure paid off when substitute Craig Haughey sidestepped his way through for a great individual try.

This was quickly followed by another Rotherham break on the left before quick hands saw the Ideal defence stretched on the right for Forber to go over. Boland added the extras to both tries to make it 34-4.

A set move from a penalty then saw Bloor complete his hat-trick, charging on to the ball at pace with Boland again converting.

A rare Ideal counter and a penalty ended with a four-pointer for the visitors' hard- working stand off Ullyatt.

But this only served to sting the home pack into action and a strong run by Ireland and quick handling sent substitute forward Mark Pickering bouncing over for a try.

Boland completed the home tally with the conversion, but there was just enough time for Ideal second-row Sutton to barge over from close range.

This was an excellent team effort by Haydock with all 17 outstanding but the man-of-the-match accolades went to Bloor, Boland and Cunliffe, with youngster Rotherham also in contention.

This Saturday Haydock are at home to Cutsyke in the Powergen Challenge Cup, kick-off 1.30pm.
