WITH reference to the 'Forgotten Village' letter by Kingsley Hayes in the Star on January 27, can I say that we never were a village. The correct name is Sutton Oak. The only ever reference to a 'village' was when it was used above a chip shop!
My grandfather came to Sutton Oak in 1873 and I think I can safely say that we were very proud of our community until Mr Hayes rightly pointed out the disgusting state of the streets and walkways.
When we were kids you could, as the saying went, "eat your dinner off the floor." That's how clean our entries and streets were. There's not a lot to be said for Sutton Oak now.
By the way, I was born a Lancashire lass on Taylor Street in Sutton Oak 63 years ago and will die a Lancashire lass (not Merseyside).
