FINCH did their chances of First Division survival a power of good with this stunning victory against their Cumbrian visitors.
Winger Adam Walsh got Finch off to a flyer when he latched on to a cross kick from scrum half Chris Ratcliffe to scorch in for a try in the corner. Finch increased their lead when Anthony Seabrook shot through for a try from a well timed Danny Flynn pass and with the front row of Flynn, Kevin Parylo and Graham Sams on form, Finch were cruising. But Finch were to lose speedy winder Walsh and hard tackling second row Paul Hitchen with a facial injury and Ulverston responded with a try. But Finch came back when tremendous passing from one wing to the other ended with centre Chris Mason smashing his way through for a superb Chris Ratcliffe goaled try to give Finch a 14-4 half time lead.
After the break the influential Chris Ratcliffe slotted over a drop goal but the tough tackling visitors reduced the deficit with a converted try and a penalty.
But with full back Andy Burrows rock steady at the back and substitutes Dave Penny, Lee Burke and John Woods leading from the front Finch weathered the storm and bounced back with Chris Ratcliffe sending stand off Richard Twist scampering over for a try under the sticks with Ratcliffe converting.
Ulverston narrowed the gap right at the end with a converted try to create a frantic finish with Danny Flynn getting red carded.
The Land Recovery Ltd man of the match with a non-stop display was hooker Kevin Parylo with Chris Mason and Anthony Seabrook in contention. Top tackler was Richard Twist followed by Parylo, Seabrook and John Woods.
