SOME of the country's favourite actors come together at The Lowry until 19 February, in a brand new production of Arsenic and Old Lace, the classic screwball comedy made into a classic Hollywood film in 1944 starring Cary Grant.
Andrew Cavill takes the role of Mortimer Brewster, the character made famous by Grant and brings with him an impressive CV of movie credits including roles in hit productions Sylvia and Wilde. Set in a quaint Brooklyn house Mortimer's two sweet loveable maiden aunts have been perfecting their elderberry wine so it has quite a kick! Little do the 'gentlemen callers' to the house suspect that soon after partaking they will be heading off to the Panama Canal courtesy of the sisters harmless, but totally barking mad nephew played by Huw Higginson (The Bill), who's building it in the basement!
Playing the character of Aunt Abby is popular actress Angela Thorne (Three Up Two Down, To The Manor Born) and she is joined in the cast by Brigit Forsyth (Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads, Boon) who brings her charm to the role of her sister, Martha.
Throwing himself into the mix is plastic surgeon, Dr Einstein, played by Sylvester McCoy, who most famously played BBC's 7th Doctor Who between 1987 and 1989. Bringing together the ingredients for a hugely entertaining and mad-cap evening is one impatient bride-to-be, a policeman who wants to be a playwright and a psychopathic Boris Karloff look-alike all joining Brooklyn's most unusual residents - the Brewsters.
Tickets priced £12-£22 are available from The Lowry box office on 0870 787 5793.
