THE cold weather this time of year is a real problem for many people in St Helens, particularly when we are getting older. Cold weather can affect not just our health but how we feel about ourselves. Keeping warm can be an almost full-time occupation.
The Nugent Care Society has been concerned about the welfare of people for over 100 years and always looking for new ways of tackling worries. Our latest effort is an Affordable Warmth Unit, funded by St Helens Health Partnership, which is trying to hit upon other ways to help people who are feeling the cold. We have learnt one way of making homes warmer without increasing the fuel bills is through insulation.
We have secured funds to install insulation in the homes of people over the age of 60 who live in their own homes or privately rented homes, whose main income is their pension. we hope all those eligible in St Helens will apply. So, if you think you might be eligible, please contact the Affordable Warmth Unit on either 01744 677752 or 01744 677732. We will assist you to get the grants you are entitled to.
Not everyone who is eligible will respond to this letter but I hope that other member of the community will be 'good neighbours' and encourage everyone they know eligible to apply. We want to make everyone feel warmer.
KATHLEEN Pitt, The Nugent Care Society.
