I AM writing to you in support of 'West Parker' (Are you serious about Liverpool's 'progress' under the Lib Dems? Dear Star, February 3), who was replying to a letter written by 'Queens Park Customer' (Losing out on leisure? Dear Star, Jan 20) the subject being St Helens would progress more under the Lib Demss as they have in Liverpool.
With respect, I do hope that this person has took on board the list of progressions that reader made.
I too have researched Liverpool's 'achievements' after these letters appeared, and the facts in that letter are found to be perfectly correct. Only last week the front page headlines of the local Liverpool daily paper stated that Liverpool Council have now disengaged with the planners of the Tramway project, causing yet more delays and doubt on whether the Lib Dem Council can deliver for the 2008 Capital of Culture deadline.
The initial author should take a long hard look at the town of St Helens and the progress made.
New Business Parks and jobs created in areas such as Ravenhead Retail Park, Lea Green, Bold and Haydock.
Improved and successful policing initiatives in key areas of West Park through the Reassurance Project. This has proved so successful plans are afoot to extend it to the whole town.
New School Buildings and Centres of Excellence. There's barely a school in the borough untouched by Funding and Investment.
Each hospital in the borough with plans for extensive changes in the near future to give each resident of St Helens a much improved lifestyle.
And finally, before I am condemned to being 'just another Labour supporter', may I remind readers that I am stating FACTS not fiction and no local politician can refute the above as you can clearly see the changes taking place in our town.
St Helens is progressing and we should share in that enthusiasm. So, I say to 'Queens Park Customer', stand up and support your town instead of suggesting weaker options.
A MARSH, West Park Resident, (address supplied).
