Investigations are continuing to trace the Widnes rugby fans who let off a distress flare at Knowsley Road before the start of this season's opening Super League fixture.

Saints ground safety officer Bob Singleton confirmed CCTV footage of the incident, which happened among away supporters in the Eddington end moments before kick-off, is now with police.

Officers are expected to try and track down the supporters who released the flare after scanning the footage.

Mr Singleton said: "A Widnes Vikings spokesman warned: "If anyone is found guilty of such a reckless act we would be more than happy to ban them from our ground and happy to pass that information to other clubs in the league."
