PAULINE Daniels returns to The Brindley after her brilliant performance in 'Misery' last season to perform in Willy Russell's 'Shirley Valentine' from 17-21 May.
Shirley is a middle aged Liverpool housewife, who finds herself talking to the wall while she prepares her husband's chips and egg, wondering what happened to her life.
Hidden inside the 42-year-old, mother-of-two grown up children, is her former self, trying to get out.
When her best friend wins an all-expenses paid vacation to Greece for two, she leaves the drudgery of cooking dinner for her husband, packs her bags and heads for the sun. The note on the kitchen table reads 'Gone to Greece, back in two weeks...'
Willy Russell wonderfully portrays, with humour, sympathy and insight, a woman breaking out of the mould cast for her by society. This touching and brilliantly funny monologue of self-discovery began life at the Liverpool Everyman in 1986 and was made into a hit film in 1989.
