PREGNANT ambulance workers Anita Snowdon and Kathryn Smith are hoping to raise a 'bumper' fund for the tsunami relief - by getting colleagues to guess the weight and sex of their babies.
The workmates, both based at St Helens ambulance station, are due to give birth within a fortnight of each other.
And, in a novel way to help the disaster area, the lasses have circulated forms around the region's ambulance depots encouraging staff to make a donation and guess the weight and sex of each tot.
Anita, 31, said: "We're just trying to raise money with a bit of fun. Being paramedics we're used to helping people but in this instance there's little we can do. All the staff we've spoken to are excited. They keep comparing our bumps and then saying which one will be heaviest."
Kathryn, 27, an ambulance technician, added: "I've guessed my baby will 8lb 3, and Anita's will be 6lb 9oz...but we'll just have to wait and see."
They won't have too long to find out who is the winner with Kathryn due to give birth in matter of days, and Anita's baby due within a fortnight.
Whoever's guess is nearest will win a mystery prize.
