PLANS for a new residential family assessment centre have been submitted.

An application proposing the change of use of the site, on Bexhill Gardens, in Rainhill, from a dwellinghouse, to residential use for the assessment centre for up to three families, has been put forward.

It is currently “awaiting decision”.

The house “will remain, look, and will operate as a family home” and there will be “no extensions or actual main structural changes”, according to the design and access statement.

It also says that over the last few years there has been a “dramatic increase” in referrals looking to support young parents and their families and referrals to provide residential based family assessments.

Furthermore, it states St Helens and surrounding areas have a “high volume” of parents/families who would benefit further from additional resources, support and guidance.

It added: “The proposed residential family assessment centre will provide health and social care services to its residents during a specified assessment period.

“The assessment program we will offer may potentially help to safeguard children as result of providing vulnerable members of the community with an opportunity with the help, support & guidance they need to develop their basic parenting care skills with the aim of integrating them back into society as a family unit, therefore having a community value.

“Consideration will be given to the neighbours at all times and regular consultation will be sought to manage and address any issues, as we want to develop and establish a positive relationship within the local community.”
