POLICE have given an update after a woman was arrested on suspicion of GBH as officers were called over concern for the safety of a child.

A police presence was seen in the Windle area over last weekend. 

When asked about this, police said they were contacted in relation to "concern for the safety of a small child".

A spokeswoman added that the child is in hospital being assessed.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent (Section 18 assault).

After the arrest, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We were contacted on Saturday, November 23, regarding concern for the safety of a small child.

"The child is currently in hospital being assessed.

"A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of s18 assault and is assisting with our inquiries."

When asked for an update by the Star, the spokeswoman said the woman has been "bailed pending further inquiries".
