A mobile liver screening roadshow is coming to St Helens.

The British Liver Trust is urging people to attend the event in Church Square, Church Street, WA10 1AF, on Thursday, November 28, to check the state of their liver.

The roadshow aims to raise awareness of liver disease, which one in ten people in the area may unknowingly have.

Liver disease often shows no symptoms in the early stages.

The mobile unit will be open from 10am to 4pm, with visitors able to receive a free liver scan and advice on maintaining liver health.

Most cases of liver disease are preventable, with alcohol, obesity, and viral hepatitis being the main causes.

Pamela Healy, chief executive of the British Liver Trust, said: "One in three of us are at risk of liver disease and the numbers of people being diagnosed have been increasing at an alarming rate.

"Although the liver is remarkably resilient, if left until symptoms appear, the damage is often irreversible."

She said that the event is a "great opportunity for people to find out their risk of liver disease", with roughly ten per cent of those scanned needing further checks.

As part of the Love Your Liver campaign, the British Liver Trust is promoting three steps to a healthier liver.

These include drinking within recommended limits and having three consecutive alcohol-free days each week, reducing sugar, carbohydrate, and fat intake while increasing exercise, and knowing the risk factors for viral hepatitis and getting tested or vaccinated if at risk.

The roadshow will feature a mobile unit where people can take a free online screening test to assess their risk of liver disease.

Free liver health scans will also be available using a non-invasive device.

Healthcare professionals will be present to provide advice on diet, exercise, and healthy living.

The mobile unit will also be visiting Wigan on November 27 and Liverpool on November 29.

For those unable to attend any of the roadshow events, an online screening test is available on the British Liver Trust's website.
