THE candidates for a council by-election in Blackbrook have been confirmed.
The ward will elect a new councillor following the passing of Labour representative Linda Maloney, who died aged 71 after a short illness.
The election for the town hall seat will take place on Thursday, December 12.
Labour, who have overall control of the council with 29 councillors, will seek to defend the seat and maintain their grip on all of Blackbrook's three seats.
Blackbrook's other two council seats are held by local authority leader Cllr Anthony Burns and Cllr Paul McQuade.
Meanwhile, Reform UK will be fielding a candidate in a council election in St Helens for the first time following strong second-place finishes in the town's parliamentary seats in July's general election.
