POLICE have sadly confirmed that a person has died on the railway line.

As reported yesterday evening, Monday, trains faced cancellations and long delays following an ‘emergency incident’.

St Helens passengers were impacted by this due to the incident being on the Manchester-Liverpool line.

Emergency services attended the scene of the incident at Broad Green railway station, where it has sadly now been confirmed that a person died.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Broad Green railway station at around 5pm yesterday, Monday, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
