ONE of the country's leading tribute bands to the Stereophonics are heading back to their hometown for a concert.
The Phonics, who hail from St Helens, are due to perform at the Citadel Theatre on Friday, November 29.
The band has just completed a successful UK tour of the O2 Academy venues and they are now looking forward to returning to their roots.
The Phonics performed at the Citadel in October last year to a sell out crowd and the band described it as "one of their best shows of 2023".
The gig at the Waterloo Street venue will also showcase some of the top local talent from St Helens, with the Patriots and Stu Ogg sharing the stage on what is being billed as "a night of pure entertainment!.
A spokesperson for the Phonics said: “It's really important that we keep on promoting live music in St Helens, especially local talent and the Citadel Theatre has done a great job in not only bringing amazing bands to the town but also allowing local talent to flourish once again."
The band play all the hits from the entire back catalogue of The Stereophonics and have been crafting their act for nearly a decade.
After comments were made that lead singer Darryl had a voice like Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones, a bunch of St Helens musicians decided to try their hand as a tribute band as they were already huge fans of the Welsh four-piece.
After growing their reputation among Stereophonics fans and the wider tribute scene, the Phonics picked up momentum which has propelled them to play much bigger shows across the country.
In a previous interview with the Star, Steve Ashcroft, from the band, said: "We've always been big fans of Stereophonics, and after deciding to give it a go as a tribute band, we have gone from strength to strength.
"It has been a massive grind over the past eight years but to see people spending their hard-earned money to pay or travel to see us is amazing."
The four-piece are looking forward to performing in front of their friends, family and familiar faces again in 2024.
