MEET Janet Harris, a nurse who is retiring from Whiston Hospital at the end of the month after spending nearly half a century working for the NHS.
Janet, who works on Ward 4A at Whiston Hospital, started her career as a State Enrolled Nurse (SEN) at St Helens Hospital in 1975, before completing her training to become a Staff Nurse and taking on a role in the surgical division at Whiston Hospital.
Janet is looking forward to retiring and spending more time with her two grandchildren but has loved her time in the NHS.
She said: “I have really enjoyed my career and I can’t believe how fast the years have flown by.
“It’s certainly a lot busier than when I first started and a lot of things have changed, but I have worked with some amazing people who are now friends for life, and I will look forward to meeting up with them on a more regular basis.’’
