FIREFIGHTERS have explained their presence at an industrial estate. 

Residents reported seeing a fire at Reginald Road Industrial Estate on Wednesday evening, November 13. 

Firefighters had attended the scene.

When asked about this, a fire and rescue service spokesman told the Star that onsite contractors had been burning residual gas from tankers.

Firefighters liaised with those at the site, who had plans in place to mitigate any hazards.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: MFRS attended an incident on Brindley Road, St Helens, Sutton on the evening of Wednesday, November 13.

"Crews were alerted at 7.04pm and on scene at 7.13pm, with one fire engine attending.

"This was onsite contractors burning residual gas from tankers. Firefighters liaised with onsite personnel, who had plans in place to mitigate any hazards.

"Crews left the scene at 7.26pm."
