A WOMAN has died days after a house fire in St Helens.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) attended a house fire in Sutton, St Helens on Sunday, November 10 and today confirmed the occupant of the house has died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident.

MFRS Fire Control received a 999 call at 4.41pm, with three fire engines on the scene shortly after.

On arrival, firefighters found one mid-terraced house with a fire in the ground floor front room.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property with one hose reel jet, rescuing the resident of the house who was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

The woman later died of their injuries.

An investigation found the suspected cause of the fire to be accidental ignition due to the unsafe disposal of smokers’ materials.

The fire service published a statement about the incident today, but has not issued further information, such as the location, at this stage.

Firefighters and MFRS prevention staff will visit the local area to provide vital fire safety advice and complete home fire safety checks as part of a reassurance campaign in the coming days.
