STAR readers have added their tributes to "true gentleman" Alf Langley.
The family of the dearly loved granddad, who was found dead in his home, paid tribute last week to a man who will be remembered for his "selflessness and kindness".
Alfred Langley, 77 and from Haydock, was found dead on Tuesday, October 29.
Police have charged a man with his murder.
Tributes to a 'real gentleman'
Star readers on our social media pages have paid tributes to Alfred, who they have said was well-known among the town's amateur rugby league scene, having played for Blackbrook and Haresfinch.
Les Teeling wrote: "Had the pleasure of Al's company when we grew up together in Lincoln Crescent, Haresfinch, always a quiet man who you never crossed.
"R I P Alf thanks for the memories".
Meanwhile, Peter Critchley added: "Remember Alf. He loved his rugby, very knowledgeable and a great amateur player for the Blackbrook and Haresfinch clubs .
"He was also a very handsome and polite man . Rest peacefully Alfred".

Jade Hardman said: "A true Gentleman, thinking of all Alf's family at this devastating time. Xx".
Meanwhile, Linda Williams said: "Came in to my place of work, nice polite gentleman. Thoughts are with his family & friends".
Family tribute to 'dearly loved dad and grandad'
On Friday, in a statement released via Merseyside Police, Alfred's family issued a tribute, which read: “As we remember Alf, our dearly loved dad and granddad, we remember the selflessness and kindness.
"He was always there whenever we needed him. Whether that meant running someone to a hospital appointment, welding a new gate or stepping in as a childminder.
“He was a beloved husband, dad, granddad , great-granddad, brother, uncle and friend."
Peter Langley, 33, of Clipsley Lane, Haydock has been charged with murder.
After a court appearance earlier this month, he has been remanded into custody. He is due to enter a plea to the charge on February 3, 2025 at Liverpool Crown Court.
