Ian Prowse gig

SINGER-SONGWRITER Ian Prowse will be performing a gig at the Junction pub in Rainford this weekend.

This performance takes place at the Rainford Junction at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 9 and is part of the ‘Ian Prowse and the Fiddle of Fire The Mersey Hymns’ tour.

Ian went on to form Amsterdam, famous for ‘Does This Train Stop on Merseyside’, which regularly elicited an emotional response from Radio 1 DJ John Peel who was not capable of playing it without crying.

The song itself got a further lease of life in 2009 as one of the centre-pieces of Christy Moore’s album Listen, which spent five weeks at the top spot in Ireland.

During this time, the band struck up a friendship with Elvis Costello who used them as his backing band on the Jonathan Ross television show.

Ian has also picked up a musical icon award on Costello’s behalf at Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel in November 2014 and has recently been touring with him.

Tickets for the performance are £15 each and available from wegottickets.com or pay on the door.
