A BUSINESS owner has announced plans to establish an MOT centre after purchasing the former Slinn's unit.

John Stone, owner of Stone Tyres, based on College Street, has revealed that the business bought the nearby former homewares shop, as it sets its sights on expansion.

The Star recently reported after Slinn's decided to relocate to Gerards Park, just across College Street, to help make the business sustainable.

The former Slinn's premises is to be turned into Stone Tyres MOT and Service Centre.

The site will offer MOT service for class four and seven vehicles (cars and vans).

John said the premises will create at least 10 new highly-skilled jobs and demonstrates the business' commitment to supporting the St Helens community.

"With the emphasis on the town centre regeneration project we are fully committed to investing in St Helens, establish the business and build. The town is definitely on the up."

A planning application is to be submitted for the MOT centre in due course, with an anticipated opening date for the MOT centre in March 2025.

John added: "Stone Tyres is going from strength to strength. We have 11 people employed (at the current site) and we are planning between 10 and 14 at the next site. We are going potentially to be employing 25 people."
