A MAN has been charged after a pensioner was found dead in a house in Haydock.

As the Star revealed yesterday, the body of a 77-year-old man was found inside a terraced house on Clipsley Lane, Haydock on Tuesday night.

This morning police confirmed the man's identity as Alfred Langley.

They added that Peter Langley, 33, of Clipsley Lane, Haydock has been charged with murder.

He will face court this morning.

Police confirmed that at about 10.10pm on Tuesday, October 29, officers received a report that the man had been found dead and had a head injury.

They later made an arrest and subsequently charged Peter Langley.

News of the man's death and the murder investigation have left residents who live in the busy area shocked.

The property at the centre of the investigation is opposite a row of shops, including the Sam's Wines off licence.

House-to-house inquiries are being conducted in the area, police add.

Residents and businesses, who had noted the police presence in recent days, have been left shocked that the area is at the centre of a murder inquiry.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan said: “This was a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

“An investigation is now underway, which is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has happened which has led to this tragic incident.”

Peter Langley will appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court today, Friday 1 November.
