Mobile users in St Helens are set to benefit from a major upgrade to EE's network.
5G mobile coverage in the areas is expected to see improvements with the launch of EE's new 5G standalone network.
The network is expected to go live before the end of the year.
The update will reportedly provide faster internet speeds and increased battery life for devices, as well as more dependable connections in crowded places.
Customers in St Helens and neighbouring Wigan will be among the first in the UK to enjoy the benefits of this upgrade.
EE first launched its 5G standalone network at the beginning of September in 15 cities, which included Liverpool and Manchester.
The company has now confirmed that the new technology will be available in 16 more locations across the UK, including St Helens, before the end of the year.
The network upgrade is being introduced in popular tourist spots, industrial centres, and commuter towns.
According to network performance data, EE's 5G standalone network is already providing an enhanced mobile internet experience.
Users of the new network can look forward to improved video calls, streaming, and online gaming, as well as higher quality voice calls in busy areas.
Unlike previous versions, devices that connect to the 5G standalone network directly access a pure 5G network rather than going through 4G.
This means they can take advantage of the network’s extra capacity during busy times and at major events, such as concerts and sports matches.
EE’s 5G standalone products are also designed to optimise the performance of artificial intelligence applications.
This ensures that mobile customers can access the best AI experiences now and in the future.
As a result, users can expect smoother and faster experiences from current and future AI tools and services.
