CONGRATULATIONS have been pouring in for former Saints player Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook after his passing out ceremony for becoming a firefighter.

The former Saints forward has completed his Firefighter Recruit Course with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

The club shared pictures on social media praising their ex-player for achievements saying he'd passed out as the top recruit of his class.

Messages of congratulations poured in from across St Helens, where Louie is a hugely popular character.

LMS hung up his boots at the end of the 2023 season, explaining that his “body screaming at me to retire” was the reason behind his decision to call time on an 18-year career in rugby league.

The last 13 of those seasons had been in the red vee of Saints where he has helped play his part in four League Leaders’ Shields, a Challenge Cup, a World Club Challenge and five Super League – with one more to play for.

Prior to that he played 97 times across five years at Harlequins before heading north and clocking up another 369 appearances for Saints since 2011.

last year he told the Star: “I can’t see myself in an office, so I’m going to try and be a fireman.”

The Bermondsey-born packman has put down roots in St Helens – so it looks like he will continue to be our adopted Cockney for a few years to come.

“I can’t take four kids down south, it’d be a nightmare to keep track of them.

“We’ll be staying up here I think, all my kids are born up here and it’s my home now and it’s where I see me staying for a long time,” he said.
