A MAN has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Atherton.
Emergency services were seen around a property on Oxford Road in Atherton on Wednesday, October 9.
Greater Manchester Police stated that a woman in her 20s had died following reports of a concern for welfare.
Initially, the Force also believed that there were no suspicious circumstances linked to the death, but residents have since reported witnessing forensics and murder investigation teams around Oxford Road.
Following further investigations, police have now confirmed that Nadeem Muhammed Begum, 52, of Oxford Road, Atherton, has subsequently been charged with murder.
A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 11.40am on Wednesday 9 October 2024, we responded to reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman at an address on Oxford Road, Atherton.
"Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 24-year-old woman was pronounced dead shortly after.
"The death was referred for a Home Office postmortem and the results upgraded the case to suspicious death investigation.
"The 24-year-old’s next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers."
Begum has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Bolton Crown Court on November 14, 2024.
