A MAN charged in connection with a crash between a car and a police vehicle in which an officer was injured has appeared in court.
Emergency services attended reports of the collision, which happened on North Road, St Helens, on the night of Sunday, November 26, 2023.
The crash involved a black Volkswagen Passat and a marked police car, which was responding to an emergency incident.
The crash happened at about 9.30pm and led to a huge presence of police and emergency crews being called to the scene.
The patrol car had reportedly struck a garden wall, midway up North Road, during the incident.
The driver of the Volkswagen was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not life-threatening.
Meanwhile, the police officer suffered a serious arm injury.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a man was charged with causing serious injury by careless driving in connection with the crash.
Ammad Riaz, of Hermitage Street, Rishton, Lancashire, appeared before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 17.
Riaz, 29, is accused of causing serious injury to a police officer by driving a Volkswagen Passat on North Road, without due care and attention.
Before district judge Clarke, the case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court during last Thursday's hearing.
Riaz was given unconditional bail before his next appearance, scheduled at the higher court for Thursday, November 14.
