THREE HUNDRED wizards, witches and muggles stepped through Platform 9 ¾ for a magical after school event at Newton Library to celebrate Harry Potter Book Day.
Organised by St Helens Borough Council’s Library Service, activities and attractions included crafts, themed games and potion classes.
There was also a selection of animals from the books, courtesy of Animal Take Over, for visitors to handle and pet to fit with this year’s theme: ‘Care of Magical Creatures.'
Prizes for best costume, chosen by Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Jeanette Banks, - who dressed as Professor McGonagall, played in the films by the late Dame Maggie Smith - were up for grabs, with Luca and Emily, both aged 8, standing out as Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood.
Hailing the event a success, St Helens Borough Council’s cabinet member for business, culture and leisure, Councillor Kate Groucutt, who was also in attendance, said: “It was wonderful to see so many families visit Newton Library for our Harry Potter Book Day event put on by our library staff who did a fantastic job decorating the library for the occasion and putting on so many interesting themed activities and attractions which left the children and young people in attendance in awe.
“Libraries, whether they be our network of seven across the borough or out in local communities as part of our outreach offer, are special places where you can let your imagination run wild and Harry Potter Book Day is the perfect opportunity to do this.”
Harry Potter themed crafts and games were also on offer at St Helens, Chester Lane and Moss Bank libraries.
