A HIGH school has closed early for the day due to an ‘anonymous threat’.

Pupils have been ‘evacuated’ from Great Sankey High School in Warringtonafter a threat was received this morning, Thursday.

Cheshire Police has confirmed that officers are in attendance, with the school opting to send pupils home.

The force also states that ‘there is no need for any concern in the wider community or nearby schools’.

In a message sent to parents and guardians, head teacher Gary Evans said: “Unfortunately, we have been given no choice other than to close the school for the rest of the day while the police investigate an incident.

“We will communicate plans for tomorrow later today, as well as for the sixth form open evening and a year seven meet the tutor event.

“We will be letting students leave, a year group at a time.

“If for whatever reason your child cannot be allowed to go home, please let your child know by text and ask them to make a member of staff aware.

“I understand this is an inconvenience and I apologise, but this is in the best interests of the school community.”

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “On Thursday, October 17, Cheshire Police attended at Great Sankey High School, Warrington, in relation to an anonymous threat that had been received.
