TORRENTIAL rain has led to flooding at various roads across the borough of St Helens.

Heavy downpours throughout Wednesday have left many places swamped.

As reported earlier today Peasley Cross Road in St Helens - a flooding blackspot - has been closed at the railway bridge close to the Saints' entrance.

But there have also been reports from Star readers of numerous other spots around St Helens hit by floodwaters.

These include Washway Lane and Scafell Road, at Haresfinch, roads around Merton Bank, Robins Lane in Sutton, Warrington Road in Rainhill and Moss Bank Road in Moss Bank.

Motorists are advised to travel with caution.

An amber weather warning for rain was in place until this evening and latest forecasts show that showers will fall through the night.
