A RESILIENT teenager was back in school today after suffering third degree burns from a serious incident on Blackbrook playing fields.
As reported by the Star, Alyssia-Rae Yates suffered serious burns on Friday evening after a boy reportedly threw a lighter into a fire and kicked the flames towards her.
With the fire full of burning plastic, the 13-year-old was left screaming in pain and was rushed to the burns unit at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in an Ambulance.
Informed that she was lucky she was wearing shorts rather than pants, which could have made her burns much worse, Alyssia was back in hospital to assess her injuries last night.

With Alyssia treated with morphine and gas and air on Friday evening, due to the extent of her burns, her mum Laura explained that Alder Hey nurses assessed her injuries along with a burns specialist and a plastic surgeon.
Following the removal of Alyssia's bandages, doctors have recommended that the St Augustine's pupil returns to Alder Hey every two days to change the dressings and treat her burns.
This process could take around three weeks as doctors continue to assess the lasting impact of the 13-year-old's injuries and try to prevent any infections. Doctors believe that some of Alyssia's injuries are third degree burns, and there are concerns that Alyssia could be permanently scarred in some places.
Despite her traumatic ordeal, Laura said that her daughter is keeping in good spirits and staying as positive as she can. She returned to St Augustine's this morning and she is very eager to recover and get back on the rugby field for Haydock Warriors.
Laura, from Blackbrook, said: "Alyssia is a positive, resilient girl who is not going to let this get her down.
"She wanted to go back to school straight away and she can't wait to get back playing rugby again. She doesn't want this to affect her any more than it has done.
"Alyssia has also been reading all the lovely messages from people, which has really helped her get through this."

Alleging that this was an intentional attack, Laura wants to see the person responsible brought to justice. The mum has also set up aAsked for an update on the police investigation, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that inquiries are ongoing into the incident.
In a previous statement to the Star, Local Policing Inspector Josh Griffiths said: "Our inquiries continue and I'd encourage anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible. This was a concerning incident and officers will be speaking to the victim and her family to offer support.
"Lighting fires can have catastrophic consequences and we work closely with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service throughout the year to respond to such incidents, and to educate young people about the dangers."
