RESIDENTS in one part of the borough were hit by a power cut overnight.

Lights went out in homes and on streets in areas of Newton-le-Willows on Sunday night, people living there reported.

Residents took to social media to highlight streets such as Mercer Street, Willow Road, Birley Street and Mercer Street were hit.

For some, the power loss was fleeting, but others are believed to have faced issues into the early hours.

In a statement, Electricity North West confirmed power had been restored by 2.43am.

It added that there had been an "unexpected incident on our high voltage cable" which had caused the issue.
