PLANS have been drawn up to create a new access point at an industrial site to prevent vehicles having to perform "challenging" U-turns.

Proposals for the construction of a new access point at Solution Point, off Haydock Lane, Haydock, and for the closure of the existing one off North Florida Road, have been drawn up.

The plans state: "The proposal will provide a new access on Haydock Lane to replace the existing service yard access located on the North Florida Road side of the site, indirectly accessed via a pull-in area."

They add: "The existing access requires vehicles to perform a U-Turn to/from North Florida Road when entering or leaving the site. This is a challenging manoeuvre particularly for vehicles with larger turning circles.

"The proposed access location will give direct access to the service yard from Haydock Lane of a form consistent with adjacent units.

"The service yard itself is to be cleared and new surfacing provided."

The application says "the proposed access will have a width of 7.3m and will be gated" and "new kerbing will be installed incorporating a crossing point with tactile paving."

The plans are on standard consultation to the public until Monday, October 28. A decision on the application is expected by November 27.
