A woman was left with a facial injury following an incident in Liverpool City Centre.

At around 2am on Sunday, October 6, police received a report that a man had approached two women in a car park on Grayson Street.

After what police described as "a brief altercation", one of the women sustained a minor facial injury and the male fled the scene on foot.

Around ten minutes later, it was reported that a woman was assaulted by a man on Hurst Street and suffered a minor neck injury. The suspect fled the area on foot.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said inquiries are ongoing into both incidents and at this stage it is believed they are linked.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of man who it is believed could have information to assist their inquiries.

Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: "We are taking these two incidents extremely seriously and we want to speak with this man as soon as possible because we believe he could have information to assist our ongoing investigation.

"If you are the man pictured, or you recognise him, please come forward as a matter of urgency.

"I understand that these reports will be concerning and we want local residents and visitors to the city centre to feel safe at all times.

"As a force, we will explore all possibilities to help reduce all forms of crime and this includes working closely with partners on a range of different measures, which includes enhanced CCTV coverage and increased lighting.

"We will continue to listen to the voices of women and girls to understand what more policing can do to keep them safe, and will put effective measures in place to respond to those fears and concerns.

"We are relentless in our commitment to pursue and bring perpetrators to justice in order to keep all of our communities safe, build trust and confidence with them and to improve the outcomes for victims and survivors.

"We have been working hard over the last three years to prevent Violence against Women and Girl (VAWG) and we continue to look at ways to improve our service to women and girls.

"Last month we launched our #TakingAction campaign to focus on putting the voices of women and girls at the heart of the work to tackle VAWG.
