A WOMAN fled after burglars wielding baseball bats burst in through the back door of a house.

Police say three men entered via an unlocked back door at the house on Hatfield Street, St Helens at about 12.45am on Wednesday, October 9.

The men - armed with wood and baseball bats - demanded to know where the safe was.

The woman, who was in the kitchen, managed to run out of the house via the front door and was not injured from the incident.

The three men then left the house through the back door and made off down the alleyway.

Police attended with dog patrols, and Police Dog Taro tracked two suspects hiding in a garden.

A 20-year-old man from Knotty Ash and a 22-year-old man from St Helens were later arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

They are still in police custody to be questioned.
